A suite of tailored digital training by Me Learning is helping 10,000 police officers at a national police and security service embed new ways of working and build vital skills on Saab UK’s unified control room software solution, SAFE.
Me Learning worked with Saab to design, develop and deliver an extensive suite of digital learning to support the transformation programme. This provides everyone with the skills they need to get the most out the new solution, SAFE, whatever their role in the organisation. Safe combines the deployment of software and new ways of working, including centralising some services to provide greater coverage and improve service delivery. The programme is designed to enhance the safety of the public and the client’s workforce.
All police officers are following a digital and blended learning pathway appropriate to the way they use SAFE in their role. This includes how to use the system to manage calls and dispatch resources to incidents, improving safety for police officers and communities.
The national police service involved chose such an extensive programme of digital learning to support the implementation by Saab UK, so they could reduce abstractions from duties, deliver training within a tight timeline and provide facilities to train future new starters. The digital tutorials mean officers only complete the content they need in their job, and at a time and in a place which suits them. This approach has drastically reduced the overall number of training hours, compared to similar more traditional learning, or train-the-trainer programmes. This proven methodology increases memory retention on software learning and enables those in critical roles to fit learning into quieter times and around different shift patterns, which minimises the impact on operational duties.

Learners retain information much quicker when they learn online and they benefit hugely from accessing learning right up to go-live and beyond, which simply isn’t possible with classroom learning or a train-the-trainer approach. Policing is a complex and challenging job, so it’s been particularly important to provide learning which makes the lives of police officers easier without adding to their workload. We have been particularly mindful of the need to avoid tech stress and to support their wellbeing during such an extensive program of transformation.
